Last Chance Survey

After staying up way too late on Tuesday night watching election stuff + getting up super early to fit in a long run on Wednesday, my brain has completed turned to mush. So, instead of rambling on about who knows what today (it wouldn’t be pretty I promise), I’m going to fill out the Last Chance Survey that’s been floating around blog land. Enjoy!

1. Last food you ate?

Well I’m currently eating breakfast which is pumpkin protein oats in a sunflower butter jar with banana slices. Pumpkin oats + sunflower butter might be one of my all time favorite combinations!

2. Last beverage you drank?

I’m drinking water right now and looking forward to my coffee when I get to the office ;) .

3. Last workout?

This morning I competed a 6 mile recovery run. Nothing too out of the ordinary to report but I am LOVING that it’s getting light earlier. I keep reminding myself to appreciate the light because it will only last a few weeks!

4. Last thing you pinned?

I use Pinterest almost exclusively for recipes so the last thing I pinned was OSG’s Fall Detox Salad. Yum!

5. Last text message you sent?

“It feels so cold out today”. Pretty self-explanatory :P .

6. Last blog you visited?

7. Last tweet you sent?

Besides for tweeting my run through Daily Mile, my last tweet was to Erin about moving to a self-hosted platform.

8. Last place you visited?

Well the last place I physically went to was work  but if we’re talking about vacation (besides going home to Michigan) it’d be Boston!

9. Last time you did ab work?

Remember when I tried the Whittle my Middle Challenge? Yeah. I lasted about 2 weeks. Even though I could tell I was getting stronger, I lost interest pretty quickly.

10. Last show you watched?

Ian and I have been [slowly] working our way through Arrested Development. I love it!

11. Last thing you baked?

I helped Ian make some cinnamon rolls last night. I’m not sure which recipe Ian picked or why but I do know that I was called in for damage control about halfway through. They actually turned out well though and for picking a complicated recipe, Ian did great.

12. Last thing you instagrammed?

Ah I’m so bad about using instagram but it’s a picture of Sonic all swaddled up in a towel.

13. Last item on your to-do list today?

Laundry! I washed the linens and towels last night but I forgot to do my own laundry. Annoying!

Now it’s your turn, pick a question and answer it :)

Survey Thursday

Katie was sweet enough to tag me in a survey and since I like learning weird things about different bloggers, I figured I’d complete it and throw it out there. It’s always fun to get a discussion going too so feel free to answer one or all of the questions in the comments or to complete the survey on your blog!

1. What’s your favorite animal and why? I love all animals equally. Obviously, I’m slightly biased towards cats because of Sonic but I also want to get a dog eventually and love visiting with them. When I was growing up, my favorite animal was a ring tailed lemur. I don’t know why either.

2. What are the colors of your bedroom walls (currently or growing up)? Currently my walls are a light green color but my bedroom at home has pink walls. I always meant to repaint them but I never got around to it.

3. What’s your favorite sports team? I love anything Michigan but I’m a particularly big fan of football and basketball. I also used to be a huuuuge Detroit Pistons fan but got fed up with the organization as a whole (nerrrd) and couldn’t watch the games anymore.

4. Where is your dream vacation spot? This is such a hard question and I’ve been incredibly lucky to have travelled a lot in my 24 years. I’d have to say that I really want to go to Africa (South Africa in particular) and the parts of Europe that I haven’t visited (England, Ireland, & Scotland for example). Someday!

5. Describe your perfect weekend. I love a mix of good food, relaxing, working out, and productivity. I need the balance of all four, otherwise my weekend doesn’t feel complete.

6. Do you love trashy reality TV? (I DO, I DO!) Umm yes! Jersey Shore, Toddlers & Tiaras, Teen Mom, Dance Moms, etc. I only watch a few of those shows every week but when I have those rare moments of free time, I love to get my trashy tv on.

7. One thing you wish you were good at? I would love to have a semblance of artistic ability. My high school was a private school that specialized in the arts and I grew up surrounded by artistic talent. Unfortunately, I was not very good at anything. I ended up liking weaving (I was okay at it) and finished up all of my required art credits working on the loom. I even ended up taking honors weaving!

8. What is your favorite kind of cookie? I love oatmeal raisin cookies and everything cookies with random nuts, seeds, and dried fruit thrown in. I actually prefer a healthier tasting cookie to a really sweet one!

9. What is the best goal you have achieved to date? This is a tough question. I’m not sure if it’s the best goal I’ve accomplished but graduating with my MPH while working half time, training for a marathon, and working on my thesis was a great accomplishment. There were times that I wasn’t sure I was going to graduate on time but I ended up finishing and I was so happy!

10. What’s your favorite clothing to wear- (workout or normal)? Workout clothes. I’m one of those people the changes into sweats or shorts almost immediately after getting home from work. I like to dress up every so often but comfort first!

11. Generally what time do you go to bed and wake up during the week? During the week I go to bed between 10 and 11 unless I am super tired and crash at 8. Whoops! I usually wake up around 5 in the morning to run/swim/bike before work.

And then for those of you who like to see what I eat, here are a few things that have passed my lips the past few days.

Clockwise from the top left corner: peach overnight oats with granola and almond butter, cinnamon strawberry oats with almond butter and salted pecans, Walmart find- surprisingly it has no scary ingredients, the mac & chreese (I cringe even typing that) bulked up with white beans, spinach, & brussels sprouts.

And with that I’m out! Have a wonderful Thursday!

A to Z Survey

I hope everyone’s having a wonderful weekend! I’ve spent most of my day studying away for midterms next week, so I figured I’d complete this survey I found on meals and moves instead of boring you with information on randomized clinical trials…

A is for age: 23 but I’ll be 24 in April.

B is for breakfast today: Ian and I may start a new traditon, waffle stack Saturday’s :)

I had mine with peanut yogurt and bananas in the middle and then sunflower seed butter and warm blueberries on top.

Ian’s had marshmallow fluff and banana in the middle and then was topped with cookie butter and syrup.

C is for currently craving: Anything with nut butter + banana + chocolate! I’m hooked on this flavor combination right now.

D is for dinner tonight: I wasn’t in the mood to cook so I threw together an easy rice bowl.

I sauteed kale and onions and then stirred in some TJ’s kimchee rice. I topped it with a sunny-side up egg for protein and siracha [unpictured] for spice.

E is for favorite type of exercise: Running, no doubt about that.

F is for an irrational fear: I don’t like flying! Even though I’ve flown a lot of places (including to Asia twice), every time I get on a plane I panic a little.

G is for gross food: Fish balls. I still don’t know what these are but I remember trying one in Bangkok and almost puking in the middle of the mall. Yuck!

H is for hometown: West Bloomfield, Michigan

I is for something important: My flash drive, I swear I’d have a heart attack if I lost it!

J is for current favorite jam: I’m honestly not that into music and listen to old music over and over again (weird, right?) but I do like Foster the People’s “Pumped up Kicks”. I guess that’s newish…

K is for kids: One furbaby :)

L is for current location: Chicago

M is for the most recent way you spent money: I bought a way overpriced fancy flavored water at 7-11. It wasn’t worth it, I’m not sure what I was thinking.

N is for something you need: More time to get things done or maybe some sleep…

O is for occupation: Primarily student but I also work at a health policy research institute.

P is for pet peeve: Any type of slurping, sucking, or any other weird noises people make when the eat. Please just eat your food and be done with it not everyone in the room needs to hear you do it!

Q is for a quote: I have two and both are running-related (go figure):

“We may train or peak for a certain race, but running is a lifetime sport.” -Alberto Salazar

“The difference between the mile and the marathon is the difference between burning your fingers with a match and being slowly roasted over hot coals.” -Hal Higdon

R is for random fact about you: When I was really little I told my mom that I wanted to be a gas station attendant when I grew up because I thought pumping gas was soooo cool.

S is for favorite healthy snack: Veggies and hummus or fruit, pretty simple :)

T is for favorite treat: Ice cream, fro yo, or custard. What can I say, I <3 ice cream.

U is for something that makes you unique: My feet have actually shrunk as I’ve gotten older (and I have huuuge feet for my 5’3 frame), when I was in high school I would wear a 9.5/10 but now it’s more like an 8.5/9… I’m not making this up guys.

V is for favorite vegetable: Toughy, I love brussels sprouts and cauliflower. I also really like carrots but a certain person *cough* Ian *cough* doesn’t so I rarely but them.

W is for today’s workout: Since I can’t run, I ellipticaled at the gym for 30 minutes and then swam 1,200 yards. I had planned to do more but my arms were sore and there was a random couple making out and groping each other in the pool/ hot tub (switching back and forth). I was just too grossed out to hang around… I mean it’s a gym pool not a love nest.

X is for X-rays you’ve had: Too many to count… seriously. I’m also going in for x-rays in three two weeks for my heel. Fun stuff.

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: Sushi and Scooter’s most definitely. I’m not the biggest fan of Friday’s because I’m usually so tired and the day just draaaags on.

Z is for your time zone: I’m in central, woohoo!

Now it’s your turn, fill out some of these, and tell me a little bit about yourself :)
