Workin’ for the Weekend

Happy Wednesday! How is everyone holding up? Only three more school/work days until the weekend :)

I woke up this morning extremely achey and lethargic. I somehow managed to motivate myself to get ready to run and headed out for my mid-week 10 miler. Almost a mile into the run I started to feel better, my muscles loosened up and running became easy. My body felt so good this morning, I almost wish I could have knocked out my weekly long run today!

Around 10 p.m. last night, Ian and I realized that we hadn’t seen Sonic in awhile. We looked all around the apartment but still no dice. Finally, out of the corner of my eye, I saw this little head peeking out of Ian’s backpack.

“Daddy is it take your son to work day?”

Have a good one guys!

Boston Marathon: 15 miler

This morning I woke up with a lingering headache from last night. I debated skipping out on my long run altogether but I really don’t like missing training runs so I got my game together and made it happen. Let me tell you, I’m so glad I did. I feel so much better post-run :)

To back-up a little bit, I woke up not feeling my best. My head wasn’t throbbing like it was last night but it felt achey and my stomach felt a little weird. I managed to eat a little less than 1/2 a piece of bread with sunflower butter and chia seeds and finish up a peanut butter banana smoothie I made for Ian last night.

Not the best pre-run fuel but it was all I could do today.

I also realized (this morning) that I was out of shot blocks. I usually don’t take in fuel during a workout unless its an 18+ mile run but with my headache I didn’t want to go unprepared. What if I bonked or felt dizzy on the run?

I ended up cutting a date in half (I like to take in calories slowly while running) and wrapping it in saran wrap. This worked fine and I actually preferred it to shot blocks. It’s more natural too so I may stick with it for race fuel.

Overall I finished in 1:55 and averaged a 7:43 min/mile.

I also want to say that I feel incredibly lucky about the weather. This morning the skies were clear, the sun was out, and it was 33 degrees (I’ll take anything above freezing!). Last year I trained for a marathon through sub-zero temps, tons of snow, and lots of ice. I much prefer this :)

When I got home I chugged a bottle of water and waited for the hunger to set in.

For breakfast I had a parfait of lemon chobani, the last tiny piece of custard spoon bread, almonds, and raisins. I also had a clementine and some iced coffee.

All mixed up.

To be honest this wasn’t enough so I went back and had a mug of cereal and a spoonful of sunflower butter.

Much better!

Plans for the afternoon include walking to TJs for groceries and preparing for school to start tomorrow.

Enjoy your Sunday :)
