I know this is a little belated but Happy New Year! Ian and I rang in 2013 with some old friends at a bar and then spent Tuesday on the couch watching football. I really enjoyed hanging out with our friends from Michigan and I hope you were all able to spend some time with family and friends as well!
It’s been a little while since I last posted so I figured I’d do a brief update today and then post about my rough and sure-to-change 2013 race calendar tomorrow. I’d love to get some ideas from Chicagoans for local races and to hear about all of your racing plans for 2013!
But first, updates….
I spent some time on Monday updating the blog. I added a page under “Running” for my 2013 fitness goals (taken from this post) and I also barely updated my training plan page. There are a few more changes yet to come including updating my “About Me” and taking down my recipe page. I also added a Contact Info page that has links to my e-mail, twitter, instagram, and daily mile accounts. Let’s be friends!

Speaking of instagram, have you noticed less of a food focus on the blog? Remember those blog changes I was talking about? Moving forward I’m going to be blogging less about food and blogging more about running and other things. Food blogging just wasn’t doing it for me anymore and I want to fill this space with other nonsense. I’m not trying to hate on any of you who blog about food– I read you (about 90% of the blogs I read are food-based) and love you– but it wasn’t working for me. I will still post restaurant reviews and will blog about delicious recipes I find because I like to spread the word about good food but besides that my food photography skills will be constrained to the instagram world. Note, there are no rules to my new madness and not everything I eat will be instagrammed either!
…and now speaking of food, I made the most delicious recipe by Kristin and just had to link to it for you. It’s amazing and you have to make it ASAP!
Finally, pvBody has an awesome January promotion going on! They’re offering anyone who signs up this month (or who is currently signed up) access to pvBody’s 30 Day Challenge. The challenge provides each participant with their own personal dietitian and trainer and provides participants with a new challenge everyday. Challenges include diet modifications and meal plans, workouts, recipes, and group activities. You can document your progress with the hash tag #pv30daychallenge. Pretty cool, right?
If you have not already signed up for pvBody but are interested and would like to receive 20% off your order, please use my link to sign up AND THEN take the challenge here. Please note that if you sign up through the second link you will not receive 20% off your order!
Alright, that’s all I have for you today. I’ll be back tomorrow to talk racing!
What kind of blogs do you read? What social media sites do you use?

I don’t really blog about food that often either… only if I’m eating something particularly delicious. I find it kind of boring and when I participate in WIAW it’s not a regular day of eats, it’s usually something special. Running is way more fun to talk about and I could go on for hours until someone stops me

I’m already signed up for pv. body but I definitely want to do the challenge if I’m allowed to!

You can definitely do the challenge! If you click on the challenge link just be sure to log into your pv.Body account and you should be set!
That was one of my goals when I started my blog- to post recipes but I quickly realized I prefer to just rattle off nonsense. Plus everything I make is already out there so I don’t really see the point.
Are there any other social media sites I need you to sign up for so I can stalk you?

Ha. Have you found my myspace yet?? Just kidding…. or am I?
I recently did the same thing! I began as a food blogger but found myself wanting to write more and more about running instead. So I just up and quit the food blog. Like you said, the majority of blogs I read are food blogs, because I’ve found other people do a much better job at it than I do!

Totally agree with you!
I tried the food blogger thing and it just didn’t work out. I eat pretty normal not exciting foods and rarely come up with creative recipes. I think I’ll stick more with the running blog

Thats how I feel too! I was starting to feel pressure to eat creatively all the time but sometimes I just want to have cereal for dinner!
I tried the whole posting pictures of what ate and recipes but I felt it was boring for me. That quinoa recipe looks so good!
You should try it!
Once upon a time I was in college and did fun things like only taking one more credit than the minimum to retain my full-time student status for all of senior year (Dear awesome policy at college that gives you credit for all the foreign language classes you skip, thus giving me 12 free credits for Spanish I, II, and III since I started in Spanish IV: I love you), which led to really fun things like No Class Thursdays and One Class Tuesdays, which led to lots of free time to actually, you know, attempt to be creative in the kitchen. Then I was stupid and graduated and got a full time job and thought it’d be a good idea to come up with grand fitness goals like running a half marathon or doing Best Body Bootcamp that take up a solid hour of my time as soon as I get home from work. Needless to say, my cooking has gone from “let’s see what I can create!” to “let’s see what leftovers are the closest to the front of the freezer so I can have dinner in about 45 seconds.” If I had time to still be a food blogger, you better believe I’d still be a food blogger, but that’s not in any way realistic for me anymore. Ah well. Such is life.

I hear you! With working full time I just don’t have the patience to be creative in the kitchen.
You should definitely blog about whatever YOU want to blog about! Plus, that’s what makes it fun to read all the different blogs out there–the more variety the better!

Great point!
I read mostly running blogs. I am not on any major social media sites except maybe LinkedIn. Blogging and reading blogs is enough time spent in front of the computer for me!

I’m with- I usually unplug after work unless I have some reason to be on my laptop at home. I do the rest on my phone!
Is it just me, or updated blog information the most pain in the butt thing ever? I always find it much harder then typing up posts and such. LOL. I read a lot of different blogs from running to swimming to nonathletic…I don’ know…it really depends on my mood I guess LOL.

Yeah it’s tough, I don’t know how I did it all the first time!
I started just doing deals and links of things I found interesting. My most popular posts of the year were generally running related and general observations. I basically just write about stuff I find now
Good luck with the Goofy Challenge!
Thanks, Erica!
Ya just gotta blog about what you really love talking about! I actually started my blog with the intention of just rambling about my day and then it turned into a food blog haha

oh my gosh i cannot believe i wasn’t already following you on instagram. and i love that you made some blog changes – i’m honestly debating doing the same but i like blogging daily and am not sure what i would blog about everyday if not for food lol…

I know, I’m going to have to see how this goes. My life isn’t incredibly interesting
I read mainly health, food and running blogs to keep myself motivated. Also some fashion and “wife” blogs to help me aspire to be good at fashion and life. Kind of a random bag but they keep me inspired!
Katie @ Livehalffull recently posted..Four Months of Marriage and SMART Goals
That’s all that matters!
I think I just read blogs I can relate to….no specific category. You have to be genuine and blog about what interests you. I get really nervous when people ask what I blog about because I hate categorizing it. I blog about my life…so whatever is happening comes through in my posts.
Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement recently posted..Let me tell you about Mauritius
I think being genuine is key to having a successful blog and you’re right, the categories can be extremely limiting.

I love all the changes that have been going on all over the blog world lately! The start of the year is the perfect time to switch things up and become more focused on your true interests. Can’t wait to see what else comes your way! I realized that most of the blogs I read are also food-related, but running blogs take up a large portion of my blog-reading as well. Happy New Year!
