Five Things Friday {11-09-2012

1. Earlier this week I received my confirmation of acceptance card in the mail for the Boston Marathon. I have to admit, even though my name has been on the entrant list since a few days after I registered I always get nervous that something went wrong during registration or somehow my name was left out etc. It was nice to get a reminder in the mail– if only the Goofy Challenge/Disney Marathon would do the same!

2. On Tuesday night Ian decided that he wanted pizza. We usually keep frozen dough and other ingredients on hand but we were all out so after a quick trip to the convenience store in our building, Ian returned with a DiGiorno. Unfortunately, we do not own a circular baking sheet so we had to get a little creative and used a flipped over circular casserole dish (so the solid side was up). Obviously neither of us really thought this through because as the dough softened it molded to the pan making a nice pizza casserole!

Ian said it tasted the same but the crusts were doughier. Hmmm….

3. I almost never go out to lunch during the week– in fact, yesterday was only the second time I’ve purchased lunch since starting my current job in late-July. Yesterday morning I was not feeling packing a lunch so I decided to pick one up from the fancy grocery store salad bar near my office. I felt like a kid in a candy store (flashback to college cafeterias) and I loaded up my salad with the most random things (raisins? ok! marinated mushrooms? sounds good!).

When I got back to my office though I was disappointed. First, my crazed put-everything-on-salad mindset hadn’t created a coherent meal and second, it did in fact taste like a college salad bar (nothing wrong with that but for almost $5 I should have picked up a salad elsewhere).

4. This week was a good week for mail. On Tuesday night I was informed that I had received a package and I was in no way expecting one (while I was/am but I knew it couldn’t have gotten there by them). Yay surprise package! I walked over to the package pick-up place in my building and found a large and somewhat heavy box. I was so excited to open it!

Turns out it my Muir Glen Tomato Gift Basket that I won from Blonde Bostonian. Yay, chili for everyone!

5. You know when you have a good idea for a meal so you make it and it looks good but unfortunately it doesn’t taste half as good as you thought it would? Yeah, that was my breakfast this morning.

I toasted two gf waffles and topped them with pumpkin mixed with protein powder, honey, and pumpkin pie spice, banana slices, and pb2 sauce. It looked so good but tasted kind of bland. Boo.

What are your plans this weekend? Ever won a blog giveaway?

  1. i won a chobani giveaway from katie’s blog and it was the funnest thing ever in life ever. i love getting mail and it’s even more fun when you didn’t have to pay any money to get it :)

i’m so excited for you getting your acceptance in the mail! i totally know the feeling of thinking something must have gone wrong and wanting a little proof! i’m the same way. have an awesome weekend!! i’ve got a running date planned, a dinner out tonight with coworkers (and probably way too much wine which might make the running date a bit difficult lol) and then the usual school work on sunday. fun weekend all in all!

    • Winning a Chobani giveaway is a big deal! Yum!

It sounds like you have an awesomely perfect weekend lined up! Have fun!

    • I plan on doing the same: resting (sleeping), running, and cleaning!! Woohoo!

Where are you having dinner in the city?

  2. Oh man, I get so nervous when I register for a race and don’t hear anything from them other than maybe an e-mail to confirm. But when it gets closer to closer to race day and I’m not getting like weekly e-mails being all, “Hey, it’s almost race day! Here’s what we’re doing!” I tend to be paranoid that something messed up and I’m not *actually* registered.

Surprise mail is the best! I always feel like it’s my birthday when I get home and find out I have a package waiting for me :)

    • I know, is it so hard for a race to send emails for our runners confirmation? It would eliminate so much stress!

I actually avoid checking the mail because I don’t like bills and I had a bad route of getting medical bills that were way more than they should have been (people did not know what to do with my Michigan insurance) and it scarred me but my mood does a complete 180 when I get a package. Whoohoo!

  3. Thats awesome you got your conformation in the mail for Boston! That is so exciting! I have sadly never won a giveaway but its ok. Im super busy this weekend with a race tomorrow, lots of homework, and seeing my younger sister perform at a talent show tonight.

  4. I felt the same way about Boston…was in I? was I out? until that little card came :)
I can’t wait to meet you in that wonderful city!! And I also can’t wait to hear how well you do in the Goofy Challenge, definitely something I want to do one day.
    I hope you’re having a great Friday!
    xoxo!

    • I suggested that but Ian didn’t want any part in that hm.. We definitely don’t have space for any more kitchen stuff either!

  5. I get really excited for packages, especially if they are a mystery. You are going to rock out at Boston.

I recently went shopping after a run at Mariano’s and I got all into buying all these expensive olives for the “olive bar” and when I got home, I was so disappointed. Clearly I was craving salt at the time, but these olives were super average. Now they are just sitting in my fridge….great.

  6. Ahh getting your Boston confirmation is so exciting!! It must feel so real now :)

I love getting any sort of packages/mail, whether it’s from a giveaway or not. I’ve won a few giveaways and finally getting the prize always puts a smile on my face.
