Five for Friday {11-2-2012}

1. Last year I needed to return something to Forever 21. After wandering around the store for a long time I decided that there was absolutely nothing that I wanted to buy and the salespeople were only willing to give me store credit. Bummer. I ended up finding one of the best/ugliest sweaters around that also happened to benefit ASPCA. I was sold.

It may be hideous but its super comfy and I love wearing it around the apartment. Isn’t Ian lucky to have such a girlfriend who dresses so cute? Oh and I totally put post-it notes on the back of my cell-phone to remind me to do things. Don’t judge.

2. I received a free sample for an all natural no calorie sweetener made from monk fruit in the mail this week. I was a little skeptical because it’s made by Splenda but I tested it out in my coffee and it wasn’t bad at all. I’m not sure it’ll replace my Stevia (I need to do more research into the product) but it could be a good alternative for people who dislike the Stevia aftertaste.

3. I am obsessed with the concept of never nudes from Arrested Development. I just think it is sooo funny. I really wanted Ian to be one for Halloween but he wasn’t interested (and we didn’t celebrate whomp whomp). Maybe if Ian is lucky he’ll get a nice pair of cutoffs for Christmas?

4. I’ve perfected my protein pumpkin oats recipe and wanted to share. I heat 1/2 cup oats, 1 1/2 cups water, and 1 tsp chia seeds on the stove. Once the water starts to boil, I stir in 1/2 cup pumpkin, and 1-2 tsp pumpkin pie spice. I wait until the pumpkin is heated through and then add in 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder. Super easy.

Some of my favorite toppings include pepitas (above), dried cranberries (above), walnuts, raisins, banana slices, and nut butters. Yum!

5. Have you guys been reading the Runner’s World articles about the 2-hour marathon? Some experts predict it will happen relatively soon while others are saying it may be another 90 years. There’s a great article that summarizes both points on RW and can be found here. What are your thoughts? When do you think it will happen?

Most importantly, what are your plans this weekend? My mom’s coming in town and I plan on staying as far as possible from work-related stuff!

  1. Ahh! That sweater is pure awesomness!!!

I have not read that RW article, but I will, now! I think we are close to sub 2:00! I bet it will happen in the next 10 years.

We are traveling this weekend to see my husband’s family and my sis. And a few other friends!

  2. I LOVE THAT SHIRT. I expect that to make an appearance at girls night.

I would pay Forever 21 to take their stuff off my hands without going into their store. Can’t they just come pick up from my apt what I bought and return it on their own? Anytime I go in there I have a panic attack.

    • Seriously. I just start wandering around aimlessly, forget why I was there in the first place, and leave empty-handed. #shoppingfail

  3. Ah, Forever21. I don’t know how to feel about the store. Given my complete lack of fashion confidence (and, let’s be real, fashion sense), Forever21 is wonderful for me, because it’s a lot easier for me to spend $3 on a shirt I may get home and decide I don’t have the guts to wear than it is for me to spend, oh, $30 on a similar shirt. At the same time, though, Forever21 tends to be so fashion forward (or, you know, at least more trendy than I am…as if that takes anything) that I regress into unfashionable panic mode and am all I’M NOT COOL ENOUGH TO BE HERE. MUST FIND ALL THE MONOCHROME T-SHIRTS BECAUSE IT’S ALL I KNOW HOW TO WEAR.

Also, their jewelry department calls to me like a siren song. There have been too many times in my life where I’ve gone into Forever21 looking for *insert real item of clothing here* and walked out with 298347 new necklaces and 738274 new earrings. I’m hopeless.

    • I wish I could buy jewelry! I suck at it! I just never know what I want and end up wearing the same pieces all the time (most were gifts).

  4. lol omg at that sweatshirt. i have a tank top (think 80s mens’ workout gear) with my nickname blazoned across the front that my dad gave me forever ago and i recently admitted its’ existence to tex. i think he likes me more because of it :)

my weekend involves a wedding and a lot of catchup on school/grad school work. a good mix of fun/relaxation/getting ahead.

    • Haha! At the mall near my parent’s house they have an entire Forever 21 store dedicated to jewelry/accessories. It’s insane.

    • Thanks! There are definitely some interesting finds at Forever 21 but you can also buy some really cute things!

  5. Cat on a sweater? Yes!! Crazy cat ladies unite?

I read a few articles on the sub-2 hour marathon and I have no idea who to “believe” since I don’t have a vast knowledge of the physiology of running. I just hope that I live long enough to see it! It would be truly incredible. I heard of a man who has been running while wearing weights (and some other crazy training methods), which he believes will help him break the 2 hour mark but who knows if that would help because the human body can only be pushed so far…
