Three Things Thursday {09-27-2012}

1. When did I become so responsible and for lack of a better word domestic? When I was in college I’d be content to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a salad with deli meat or (vegan “meat” after I stopped eating meat) + a yoplait light for lunch, and then another salad, pita pizza, or pb&j on pita for dinner. Fast forward to now and after eating four salads for my last four non-breakfast meals, I decide that it’s totally acceptable to make Mac & Chreese (yep that says chreese- allergen free!) at 7:00 a.m. so I have something different for lunch today and tomorrow. Yep, I’m that weirdo.

2. I don’t know if there is anything I dislike more than doing laundry. Surprisingly it’s not that the laundry room is like 8 floors below my apartment, it’s the folding and putting away part. It has started to take my 3 days to do my laundry. On day 1, I procrastinate doing laundry until late so I end up staying up to retrieve my dry clothes and throw them in my hamper. They stay there for the night. On day 2 I decide that it’s time to fold the clothes so I do that while watching tv and then put them back in my hamper. By day 3 I am so sick of the pile of dirty clothes accumulating next to my clean clothes that I finally put away the clean ones. It’s a vicious cycle and I know I should do it all in one night but I just really really dislike the process.

3. Today is Ian and my 3 year anniversary. I can’t believe it’s already been 3 years, they’ve really flown by! We’re going to go out tonight and do the whole dinner celebration thing and for the first time I haven’t been able to figure out where we’re going. Hmm..  Anyway, you can read more about how Ian and I met here.

——————————————————————————————————————–

After work yesterday I met Kelsey for a Flywheel class. The class was more challenging than usual and I could definitely feel the wear of marathon training on my legs. It was fun though and I’m always up for meeting with a friend for a workout date!

Ian took this picture after Kels escorted me to Chipotle to meet him. I had a BOGO deal from the Cultivate Festival that was about to expire and needed some Chipotle in my life :) .

This morning when I woke up I knew my training run was not going to go as planned. I was tired and my legs were tired and 8 miles with 4 tempo miles did not sound like fun. I warmed up for 2 and then tried to increase the pace but my body did not want to cooperate so I ran another 2 and tried again. No dice. I didn’t want to push myself too hard and risk injury, so I turned the 8 miler into a general aerobic run and finished in 1:03 (7:52 min/mile).

Breakfast was oats in a jar made with 1/3 cup oats (small jar), 1 1/3 cups water, 1 tsp chia seeds, 1/3 scoop protein powder, sliced banana, and fresh blueberries on top.

It was eaten while cooking the Mac ‘n Chreese :P

Anyway, I’m off to work- two more days until the weekend :)

  1. Aww, happy three years to you two!

That mac n chreese is actually pretty good. I love the version they make with the shells – it makes you feel like a kid in the best possible way! And if you’re ok with potatoes, the same company makes a mashed potato with “butter and cheeze” mix that’s actually pretty respectable.

    • Thank you :)

I haven’t seen the kind with the shells but I’m sure I’d love it more than the normal one, I was always a shell lovin’ kinda girl :) . Those potatoes also sound really good, I’ll have to keep my eye out for them!

  2. Three things for you: 1) I love that you make Mac N Cheese in the morning. Totally something I have done. 2) I HATE laundry. Like it is not logical how much I hate it. 3) Laundry confession. Last time I did a load I forgot to add the detergent and didn’t realize it until the washing machine was done. Each load costs 1.25 and an hour of my time. Did I redo it? Nope! There must be enough detergent left in clothes from previous washings right? Right!

    • Long distance is a lot of work but it is do-able with lots of video chats :) .

I love that you make lots of weird cooking noises at weird times, I do the same thing. It’s even worse because my blender is so crappy that it makes a ton of noise just blending a non-frozen banana!

  3. Congratulations on three years! That’s so wonderful :)

I haaaaaaaate laundry. I don’t mind the actual process of separating whites and colors and putting it in the machine, but I hate that I have to block off like two hours of my day that get super awkwardly interrupted to move my laundry from the washing machine to the dryer, I HATE HATE HATE paying to do my laundry, and above all, I hate folding laundry after it’s all said and done. I went home last weekend and I may or may not have emptied my laundry bag, filled my suitcase with dirty laundry, and brought it all home. Bless my mother’s heart. Paying to do my laundry is really what gets me (always got me in college too), so that was my excuse, though it’s also really nice to have my clothes folded for me. I am such a child. I don’t know if I’ll bring my laundry home again, though. When I was home, my mom asked if I needed groceries when we were at Meijer, and I was all, “No, I don’t have room in my suitcase to take food home,” (even though I did really need food). I then realized that buying my groceries at home and not paying the absurd grocery tax this stupid city has would’ve probably been a lot cheaper for me in the long run than saving $4.50 on laundry. From here on out, spare suitcase space will be reserved for non-taxed groceries from Michigan haha.

    • Thank you :)

I always used to bring my laundry home in college even though after my freshman year I didn’t have to pay for it. I think there’s something comforting about doing laundry in a non-public and clean washer/dryer that makes the trip worth it!

  4. That story about you and Ian is so cute! Happy anniversary!
Not that I should admit this, but I always take my laundry back to my parent’s to do there (and sometimes my mom does it all). It’s much cheaper and we hang all the clothes on the outside clothesline to dry so it’s more environmentally friendly! Also it is difficult to get a full load of whites when you are only doing one person’s laundry so that way I can combine it with my parents laundry.

    • If it weren’t a 5 hour drive I’d definitely take my laundry back to my mom’s house. I always do a load when I’m at home too, I just throw whatever I’ve worn when I’m at home into her stuff :) .

That’s so cool that you hang clothes out to dry!
